I believe in marching band because of the precision that it requires from each individual. Every member is part of the overall performance, and everyone plays an important part in the music that we play. “One band, one sound” is a quote from the movie “Drumline” that applies to everyone. Each and every person has to be precise not only in what they play, but also in their marching, so that the band can look sharp and not sloppy. One thing that my band director used to tell us every year was that he expected all the guys to shave before our performance. Back in the day, the band parents would walk up to every guy and dry shave their face if they didn’t do it themselves. Luckily, times have changed, and they no longer do this, but the idea of each individual being prepared, ready, and sharp so that the band looks and sounds ready and sharp continues to this day.

Wiltson won at the Dome (the championship for Marching Band) last year, so Hooper is determined to beat them this year.

However, even though Hooper High and Wiltson High Marching Bands are rivals, most of the feuding in this goes on between the Colorguard, the Winds, and the Percussion (the Pit) of the Hooper High Marching Band.

I believe that if cheerleading can be considered a sport than so should marching band. Marching band can be just as strenous and even more challenging than cheerleading or sometimes football. To me it is way of life that everyone should experience. This is how i live my life. Without band i would have not have learned many of the life lessons that i now know. Discipline is one of those lessons unfortunately we had to learn that the hard way. When the director says set that is when everyone is in position while being still and quiet well some people do not really understand the concept. I am not one of those people. But the other people that do not get it have caused us to do many push-ups and also many minutes of standing at set. Another of the life lessons i have learned is determination and to never give up. I have been pushed to my limits then pushed even farther. Many of times i have gone past my limits and achieved new limits. Our director has taught us to never to give up on our dreams even if you believe that it will never happen you must never give up. I believed that we would never make it into the finals of contest of champions but that dream came true. For the past two years we have made it into the finals of that conetest. We have had better placement each year. Another lesson i have learned is to always do your best no-matter what the circumstances are. Two years ago during the results period of the contest of champions they announced that we were in the finals for the contest which only 8 bands make it in out of over 30 bands, although we did get last place in the finals it was a very good learning experience for me and the rest of the band. I believe that a good way for people to learn life lessons is through a band program. I believe life without band makes your life obsolite and boring. I believe that without band i would not be where i am today. Band is my life and it makes me whole. This is what i believe and nothing else can change my mind except maybe rugby but that is a whole different story.
