If every american uses a plastic bag, for a couple things then yes, our environment is going to turn into a plastic paradise! This question suffers from narrow framing. Instead of should we ban the bags, yes or no, we should be asking the broader question of what options exist to reduce the amount of waste and impact from grocery bags. Some solutions include but are not limited to banning bags made out of certain materials (allowing “plastic,” but having laws about how biodegradable they are), promoting using fewer bags, encouraging reuse, etc. I think the question here is a little misguided. Instead of asking whether we should ban bags or not, we should be asking what the best steps would be to reduce trash, and not limiting the conversation to a very small part of the problem.

I think banning light weight plastic bags is a extraordinary idea! I myself have seen tons of plastic bags in my community being wasted, some people think of good ideas to reuse them, like using them for garbage or putting candy in them during parades. But that doesn’t out weigh how many bags people just throw away instead of using them. I think banning them is a good idea, maybe we can figure out different types of bags to use that are healthy for the environment and are easy to reuse.
