Through this, she was the first to identify and discuss the close, but previously unknown, friendship between Henderson and Bacon. This relationship came to light through Walsh’s research into archival material held by the Henderson Estate and unpublished material she held from an interview she conducted with the art critic David Sylvester.

“Of Studies” by Francis Bacon.

A principal fruit of friendship, is the ease and discharge of the fulness and swellings of the heart, which passions of all kinds do cause and induce. We know diseases of stoppings, and suffocations, are the most dangerous in the body; and it is not much otherwise in the mind; you may take sarza to open the liver, steel to open the spleen, flowers of sulphur for the lungs, castoreum for the brain; but no receipt openeth the heart, but a true friend; to whom you may impart griefs, joys, fears, hopes, suspicions, counsels, and whatsoever lieth upon the heart to oppress it, in a kind of civil shrift or confession.

The second fruit of friendship, is healthful andsovereign for the understanding, as the first is forthe affections. For friendship maketh indeed a fairday in the affections, from storm and tempests; butit maketh daylight in the understanding, out ofdarkness, and confusion of thoughts. Neither isthis to be understood only of faithful counsel, which a man receiveth from his friend; but beforeyou come to that, certain it is, that whosoever hathhis mind fraught with many thoughts, his witsand understanding do clarify and break up, in thecommunicating and discoursing with another; hetosseth his thoughts more easily; he marshalleththem more orderly, he seeth how they look whenthey are turned into words: finally, he waxethwiser than himself; and that more by an hour’sdiscourse, than by a day’s meditation. It was wellsaid by Themistocles, to the king of Persia, Thatspeech was like cloth of Arras, opened and putabroad; whereby the imagery doth appear infigure; whereas in thoughts they lie but as inpacks. Neither is this second fruit of friendship, inopening the understanding, restrained only tosuch friends as are able to give a man counsel;(they indeed are best;) but even without that, aman learneth of himself, and bringeth his ownthoughts to light, and whetteth his wits as againsta stone, which itself cuts not. In a word, a manwere better relate himself to a statua, or picture, than to suffer his thoughts to pass in smother.

Thank you very much for the Francis Bacon study pack. I was greatly benefitted by the lucid explanations. I could improve my score by taking the help from this guide. Bacon’s essays are the toughest for all English Honours students because of their antique grammar. I recommend to all those who find Francis Bacon essays difficult to understand.

Very difficult. You know Bacon. ‘Of Death’ will be posted by Tuesday.

In 2010 she has participated in the European Tracks on Photography, holding a workshop of photography in Lucca, Ankara ed Evora.
In 2012 she did an exhibition within the Project RICICLARTE at the Aranciera-Semerzaio of St. Sisto in Rome. In 2013 she designed the Project "Visioni da un Romanzo" to promote and disseminate the photographic art through the free reinterpretation of literary works. The first collective exhibition "Manna e Miele, Ferro e Fuoco" took place at Palazzo della Cultura in Catania and then in Siracusa at the ex Monastero del Ritiro. The work features a free rereading of Giuseppina Torregrossa's novel and tells the feelings and pulsions of a young woman, in our land: Sicily. The following project "Visioni da un Romanzo" goes on weaving a visual text around "I Malvoglia" by Giovanni Verga. Through photos the spirit of the protagonists, oppressed and defeated by hostile destiny, is depicted, focusing on the inescapable, never-ending renovation of defeat. The exhibition
"I Malavoglia" took place at the Palazzo della Cultura in Catania on 2014 and at the Castle of Aci and at Museo Verghiano in Vizzini on 2015.
